Sissy's BrutalityI am about to lose my sense for this!
In a movie they show me skulls being cracked open in curb stomps. They show me women and men being raped with monstrosities or entire cities being destroyed in orgies. But I can't really see it. They pull away with the camera. To save my evening! They pick the sissy way out and they back it up with feel-good music - so I can sleep! And then they go with the hero. The victim does not stay in the picture. The pain doesn't. And death doesn't.
Why is that? Why pick the horror, when one can't really stand it? Why pick death, when afterwards there is no standstill? Why the lost city, when there is nothing to it? And why not confront action with the end of things, so I can go home and actually feel it?! So I really know what war is and that it cannot happen over and over again.
I remember 'Irreversible' - a movie that had some kind of honesty to its brutality – some realism. It combined happiness and beauty with a full length destruction of two human beings. And it was devastating! It put a meaning to brutality. I will never be able to see it again, or anything like it. I want that intensity! I want to know what things really mean! And in a way I am hoping for a little less brutality, because I don't need that much to understand destruction and what it does to humanity.
